Preparations are now in full swing for the upcoming Malaysian Chess Festival 2008 set this Friday. A meeting chaired by Organising Secretary IA Hamid Majid (pictured below) was held this afternoon to discuss the smooth running of the country's premier chess events. Other Council Members and officials of the Malaysian Chess Federation ('MCF') as well as student volunteers (GACC) from the University of Malaya were on hand to make this event a success.
As at 7th August 2008, some 40 teams comprising local and international players have registered for participations in the Malaysian Chess Festival. Final registration for the 28th Astro Merdeka Rapid Team Championship will be on 15th August 2008 from 1600hr-1900hr at the Ballroom Cititel Midvalley Hotel. This will be the start of the Festival, to be followed by the IGB-5th Dato' Arthur Tan Malaysia Open and concurrently the 3rd AmBank Group Malaysia Chess Challenge scheduled on the 17th August 2008. A Malaysian Blitz Open event will also be held on the 24th August 2008. Final details on the Blitz event will be disseminated during the Festival.As a reminder the final event the 28th Astro Merdeka Open Team Chess Championship 2008 will be held at another venue the Wilayah Complex. Closing date for registration is the 26th August 2008.
