The eventual Champion 'Team Philippines' only needed a 2-2 draw with fellow 'Laguna Chess Team' in the final round to clinch the championship title which ended this evening. The team surprisingly lost to 2nd placed 'Gold Is Berhad' in round 4 but never looked back since then. On the other hand 'Gold Is Berhad' made a gallant 4-0 dash over Wah Seong Group to equal the leader's 29 1/2 points but lost on tie-break. The loss to 'Laguna Chess Team' in the 6th round and a draw with 'Apocalypse-Manila' in the 8th round proved a forminable Filipino blockade for the Uzbek powered team. It is interesting to note 'Gold Is Berhad' has a local based Filipino player on 3rd board but that is not enough to stop the onslaught of his fellow countrymen. As consolation both Uzbeks GM Iuldachev, Saidali and GM Dzumaev, Marat had an excellent performance to earn the top Board prizes in their respective category.Malaysia's top team 'ASTRO Malaysian Squad' led by IM Mas Hafizulhelmi was overall 6th and took the 'Best Malaysian Team - First' title. Mas dropped 1 1/2 points, a draw with fellow Malaysian IM Jimmy Liew and loss to IM Irwanto Sadikin but set aside a few titled players IM Richard Bitoon, IM Ronald Bancod and FM Ahmed Minhazuddin along the way.
